I saw the original Broadway production of Master Class four times (and with four different leading ladies), so there are certain expectations I bring to each new presentation. Needless to say, without a charismatic star at its center, this play would never begin to work. With Glezos, this Master Class is a winner, a must-see if only to watch this actress in action…a committed, carefully crafted portrayal that feels unlike anything I have seen before…This is certainly a performance to be reckoned with....This Master Class does full justice to the legendary diva and one hangs on every moment in this production.

Irene Glezos delivers a lovely, stirring performance as Lady in Austin Pendleton’s staging of Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece Orpheus Descending. A force of nature, Lady says and does things almost in spite of herself. A prisoner of her childlike sincerity, she is at once witty, ironic, funny, melodramatic, all almost without intending to be, as though an inner engine which she can’t really control is driving her. Ms. Glezos captures this essenceof her character in its many details with magnificent nuance.
